Question

Will Suboxone Block Kratom?

Short answer: in most cases, yes — buprenorphine occupies the same opioid receptors that kratom and 7-OH need to bind to.

Key Takeaways

  • Buprenorphine has very high mu-opioid receptor affinity.
  • Once it is on board at a therapeutic dose, kratom and 7-OH typically have little additional effect.
  • Trying to override Suboxone with more opioids or kratom does not produce a meaningful high and can be dangerous.

Why Suboxone Blocks Kratom

Buprenorphine binds tightly to the mu-opioid receptor and only partially activates it. That high binding affinity means it displaces and out-competes other opioid-receptor drugs, including kratom's mitragynine and 7-OH.

Are There Exceptions?

At sub-therapeutic Suboxone doses or with very high amounts of concentrated 7-OH, some breakthrough effect is possible. Combining the two also raises overdose risk and is not recommended.
